Lake Blalock encompasses 1,105 acres and contains approximately 45 miles of shoreline. Along with an increased water supply, Lake Blalock offers many recreational activities like boating and fishing.
Visitors can enjoy Lake Blalock Park, a recreational park provided by Spartanburg Water, that offers picnic pavilions, a dock for fishing, one boat ramp, and the Lake Blalock Warden’s Office.

The Lake Blalock Nature Trail is a nearly 2 mile, soft path trail with areas of mild elevation. The trail winds through Lake Blalock Park, and has beautiful nature and lake views. Visitors can access the trail using two trailheads, one located off of the boat area parking lot and the other to the right of the Wardens' Office.

Lake Blalock Park has three covered pavilions for use on a first come, first served basis (at no cost) at the Lake Blalock Landing. Each pavilion is in a separate area and provides two picnic tables. There are also restrooms provided for visitors.
Spartanburg Water System has established a specific watercraft permitting fee structure for both Lake Bowen and Lake Blalock, as well as guidelines for the specific watercraft allowed on each reservoir.
Please note that no watercraft of any kind is allowed for permitting on Municipal Reservoir #1.
Permits can be purchased for seasonal or daily use, and fees are based on horsepower and residence.

Spartanburg Water maintains ownership of our drinking water supply reservoirs, including shoreline buffer property up to the 827’ Mean Sea Contour Line above the water's edge for Lake Bowen. We take this responsibility seriously and follow a strict set of policies and procedures to ensure the long-term health and quality of the reservoirs that supply our community with its drinking water.
Lake Bowen provides an excellent source of high quality drinking water for the people of the Spartanburg area. Protection of this resource is needed to ensure that current and future generations will continue to enjoy drinking water from the reservoir and also have excellent opportunities for outdoor recreation and education. Protection of the reservoir begins with the surrounding watershed and associated land use practices. Please read the Resolution to Protect Water Quality, adopted by the Commission of Public Works of the City of Spartanburg.
