SPARTANBURG – The Spartanburg Sanitary Sewer District (SSSD) is proud to announce that we are once again the recipient of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services (SCDES) Facility of Excellence Award. The awards were announced at the recent SCEC conference in Myrtle Beach. All nine of our wastewater treatment facilities received this individual honor:
SCDES, in junction with the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC), seeks to recognize facilities that strive for excellence in operation; including meeting compliance standards, implementing improvements, and practicing safety – in addition to protecting the environment. Also taken into consideration are financial viability for projects and rehabilitation, as well as exceeding customer expectations based on customer service record, communication, and community outreach.
The SSSD has continued to win this award annually since the program’s inception, with recognition given to the prior year’s performance. The award presented was for calendar year 2025.
Vice President of Plant and Field Operations, Rick Jolley, said the awards are the result hard work, attention to detail and the successful collaboration of multiple departments across Spartanburg Water.
“Receiving these SCDES awards each year reflects the dedication and expertise of our Spartanburg Water team members who choose to serve this community,” said Guy Boyle, CEO of Spartanburg Water. “Their commitment to upholding regulatory standards, prioritizing safety in their work, and protecting our environment is evident every single day. I’m honored to work alongside such a committed group of professionals.”
